The Dead Matador

after Ellen Elizabeth Dudley

He thought he was the bee’s knees

of Matadors, but now his thoughts

were of something else

as the bull trotted away dragging his entrails,

hanging now from its left horn

he’d thought the creature was right-handed

as most of God’s creatures were.

It was not.

It was in fact ambidextrous

as all God’s creatures are.
