He erected a scaffold

to build his house,

but after its completion

realised he did not want walls

or a roof to restrict him

from the touch of the world,

so he continued building

the scaffold

so he might touch the stars

and see the world

as a god might.

night after night,

metal scraping hollow metal,

wood creaking, taking weight.
